The project members wish Alan well in his new job. His details are left on this site for people interested in the project. Dave Miller, Project Manager.
My name is Alan Sherwood; I am thirty nine years old and married for eighteen years with three sons, Scott 17, Michael 15 and Craig 14. I have lived in Barnsley all my life but have spent most of my working life in Sheffield with British Steel, so I am used to the funny accent.
I was forced to give up work in 1998, due to ill health after years of manual labour in heavy industry, so the opportunity that SYFIT and Sheffield University has given me is completely different to anything I have done previously. It is a challenge that I am looking forward to.
My interests are mainly football and golf, although I will watch any kind of sport on television (much to the wife’s annoyance) and trying to play guitar in the vein of Jimi Hendrix and Angus Young (much to the kids annoyance).
I left school with few qualifications and have spent the last few years back in education at Barnsley College, starting with GCSE’s, moving on to City and Guilds, then A – Levels and I am currently studying for a HND in computing. I have built up a vast amount of knowledge of which I am extremely proud and I hope to put that knowledge into practise. Now I have the chance to get some real hands-on experience, which can only enhance my career prospects, because as the saying goes, ‘you can’t beat experience’.
