These are selected sites - this does not aim to be a comprehensive list.

General marketing sites/portals

The basic principles of marketing are the same, whatever the product. A good, recent marketing [print] textbook is still a good starting point, since I haven't found a good complete "textbook" on the web. Examples of textbooks are: Dibb, Sally et al. (2000) Marketing: concepts and strategies. 4th European ed. Boston: Houghton Mifflin. or Kotler, Philip. (2000) Marketing management. 10th ed. London: Prentice Hall.

  • Internet Advertising Resource Guide: an organised set of links, from Hairong Li, based in the USA. http://www.admedia.org/index.html

  • ISM '99: 5th Annual Innovations in Social Marketing Conference: Montreal, Canada July 18-20, 1999. University of Hawaii, 1999. This is on the year 2000 conference site; scroll down a little to see the link. Includes the full text of a number of 1999 papers. http://ism2000.cba.hawaii.edu/

  • Marcommwise: a marketing communications site with some articles, a glossary and links. http://www.marcommwise.com/

  • Marketing UK is a portal with some short texts about "what is marketing" etc., news (including links to news about new market research), directory, links, and a business quotations database. http://www.marketinguk.co.uk/

  • Weinreich, Nedra Kline. Social Marketing site from this consultant includes some texts (what is social marketing etc.) and a set of links to resources concerned with social marketing. http://www.social-marketing.com/

  • WilsonNet. Web marketing and e-commerce is an excellent resource for these topics, with short practical articles and lots of links to other articles and sites. http://www.wilsonweb.com/

News sites and Journals

  • Advertising age is a long-running trade journal for the US advertising industry. You need to register (free) to search the archive and read articles. There is an 'interactive' section which particularly focuses on new media advertising and PR. http://www.adage.com/

  • Business 2.0, now includes e-company now material: covers e-commerce with articles on commercial use of email, branding on the web etc. There are archives, and a useful set of links in their Webguide. http://www.business2.com/

  • B2B covers marketing and ecommerce with news and short articles. There is a list of previous features that can be browsed. http://www.netb2b.com/

  • Channel seven News Beat US news items relating to advertising industry. http://www.channelseven.com/newsbeat/

  • Clickz has daily short articles about various aspects of internet marketing.http://www.clickz.com/

  • emarketer. Some free news, articles and statistics, though more information is priced. http://www.emarketer.com/

  • FindArticles covers a wide range of magazines and journals, including information and marketing ones. Full text can be displayed free. http://www.findarticles.com/

  • Internet advertising report. News stories from Meckler. You can also receive the headlines free by email. http://www.internetnews.com/IAR/

  • Journal of interactive advertising has articles in full text. http://jiad.org/

  • MAD is from Centaur, publishers of the UK magazines Marketing week, Precision marketing etc. There is limited free access, if you register, to current stories.http://www.mad.co.uk/

  • Magportal is a search engine for articles about business, management, information and marketing. http://www.magportal.com/c/bus/

  • Marketing magazine (UK). You can browse features from previous years and read current news and features free. There is a "webwatch" feature. http://www.marketing.haynet.com/

  • Marketing educator (for marketing academics): has full text online. http://www.ama.org/pubs/me/index.asp

  • Marketing news (from the American Marketing Association)http://www.ama.org/pubs/mn/index.asp

  • Newmediazero has news about new media marketing. You can search the archive: viewing "newmediazero" articles free, but only subscribers can view articles from New media age etc.http://www.newmediazero.com/news/

  • Revolution the (UK) magazine for new media marketing. There is a searchable archive of stories from the UK, US and Asia editions. There is also a Research section (in Knowledgebase) which provides statistics on various aspects of the market (top ten UK sites etc). http://www.revolution.haynet.com/

  • Target marketing has full text of current articles and a searchable archive, plus a direct marketing glossary. http://www.targetonline.com/
