GLASS

GLASS is an IR system that I wrote while doing my PhD. The name is a sort of amalgam of Glasgow and UMass, the two Universities where I did most of the work on the system. It also reflects my intention to make the operation of the system transparent (ha ha). The documentation here is mostly for my benefit, but you're welcome to take a copy of GLASS if you're interested.

Why I didn't use an existing system like SMART, INQUERY or MG, the answer is a mixture of laziness and ego. I couldn't be bothered to learn how to use these systems and I thought I could write something better. These systems are undoubtedly good and have had a lot of programmer time put into them. However, I believe that GLASS, although unsophisticated, does have a simplicity to it that I rather like.
