I am a Reader (like an Associate Professor in the US) at the University of Sheffield in the Information Studies Department.
Research
I'm a researcher in information retrieval (IR) (e.g. web search engines). I'm particularly interested in evaluation of search engines, but also work in geographic search, cross language IR (CLIR), summarisation, image retrieval by captions, word sense ambiguity.
I have a number of active research projects and a number of research students
Teaching
I teach courses in Web search and the more academic sides of IR. I also teach an ICT module and I contribute to courses in multimedia, essay writing and security.
